IPL 2022: Tilak Verma breaks four-year-old record

The Rajasthan Royals defeated the Mumbai Indians in the IPL’s ninth match on Saturday (April 2). Tilak Verma, Mumbai’s young batsman, was the star of the show. In 33 balls, he scored 61 runs. He hit three fours and five sixes during this time. Tilak had a strike rate of 184.85 percent. He made a special record in his name during his innings. Tilak is Mumbai’s youngest player to score a fifty.

At the age of 19 years and 145 days, Tilak has scored a half-century. Ishan Kishan had previously been the youngest batsman to score a half-century. In 2018, Kishan scored 58 runs against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. He was 19 years and 278 days old at the time. In Saturday’s match, Tilak scored 61 runs in 43 balls, while Ishan Kishan scored 54 runs in 43 balls. In his innings, he hit five fours and a six. Kishan’s strike rate was 125.58 during this time.

In the IPL, Kishan has his fifth consecutive fifty. As an opener, Kishan has become the fourth player in IPL history to score half-centuries in five consecutive innings. Virender Sehwag, Jos Buttler, and David Warner had done it before him. In 2012, Sehwag scored five half-centuries in a row for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Buttler for Rajasthan Royals in 2018, and David Warner for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. In 20 overs, Rajasthan scored 193 runs for eight wickets. Jos Buttler hit 100 off 68 balls, Shimron Hetmyer hit 35 off 14 balls, and Sanju Samson hit 30 off 21. For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets and Tymal Mills took three. Mumbai’s team could only score 170 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs while chasing a 194-run target. This match was won by Rajasthan by 23 runs.
