Fumio Kishida, Japan’s prime minister, is in India for a two-day visit. Today, he will meet with Prime Minister Modi for a summit meeting. This meeting is significant in light of the Ukraine crisis and China’s growing influence in Asia. He is also expected to announce a $ 42 billion (Rs 3.18 lakh crore) investment in India over the next five years, according to reports.
Kishida is visiting India for the first time since becoming Prime Minister of Japan last year. He will also have his first meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In 2014, then-Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced a five-year investment of 3.5 billion khabar yen in India.
According to the Nikkei Asia newspaper, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will invest $ 42 billion (five trillion yen) in India over the next five years. Currently, Kishida is in Delhi. Japan is assisting India in the development of its urban infrastructure as well as the establishment of a high-speed railway network based on its bullet train technology. The focus of Kishida’s visit to India is on strengthening bilateral ties, with economic cooperation on the agenda for the meeting with Modi. It’s also likely that the expansion of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project to other areas will be discussed.
The two leaders will also talk about the situation in Ukraine and China’s meddling in Asia-Pacific affairs. Japan imposed dozens of sanctions on Russia after the Russian attack on Ukraine on February 24. Many Russian citizens and organisations have also been barred from entering the country. It also accepts Ukrainian refugees as refugees. The Quad also includes India and Japan. Apart from these two, the United States of America and Australia are also members. It is a four-nation organisation formed to counter China’s growing power and arbitrariness, as well as to strengthen mutual cooperation. India, on the other hand, is the only member of the Quad who has not directly condemned Russia’s attack.
