Ukraine Crisis: Chinese President Jinping spoke to Putin on the phone

On Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke by phone with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. During this time, he backed Putin’s efforts to use dialogue to resolve the Ukraine crisis. Following Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the situation has deteriorated significantly.

Jinping stated that the situation in eastern Ukraine is currently changing at a rapid pace. China believes that through dialogue, Russia and Ukraine can resolve their differences. Let us point out that Russia is China’s closest ally and has not condemned Russia’s actions.

Jinping told Putin that it was critical to get rid of the Cold War mentality and address legitimate security concerns. China has so far taken a cautious diplomatic approach to the crisis, refusing to label Russia’s military operation “aggression” or condemn its actions.
